Singaporean Millennial and Gen Z workers are more likely to use Gen AI tools at work and have seen greater time-saving benefits from implementing these tools compared to older generations. At least that is according to the findings of a global survey of 9,047 full-time employees from nine countries from business automation company UiPath.

According to the survey, 60% of local workers have used generative AI during work hours to solve work problems. These have included, drafting communications (44%), summarising long-form content (34%), and brainstorming (34%).

Uncertainty gives rise to burning out

Against the backdrop of increasingly challenging economic conditions, Singaporean workers are facing increasing workloads and almost a third (30%) of employees in Singapore indicated feeling extremely or very burnt out.

To reduce this, Singaporean workers want their workload reduced (62%), more time and bandwidth to get tasks done (46%), and access to AI and automation, including Gen AI tools (43%).

This is because Gen AI is seen as a potential solution to combat burnout by giving employees time back in their day. 62% of Singaporean workers who use Gen AI at work believe it has saved them time on work-related tasks, with more than 42% saving 10 or more hours.

Jess O’Reilly, Area Vice President, Asia at UiPath said:

The findings from our survey indicate that Singaporean workers who do utilise both technologies (Gen AI and automation) have seen greater productivity and an improved work life balance. To inculcate a more fulfilled workforce, initiatives to plug skill gaps, foster greater trust in AI, as well as strategic private-public partnerships will be key to help workers embrace digital transformation in the age of AI.

The results of this survey serve to reinforce why the Singapore Government, working with partners DataRobot, IBM, Singtel, and Temasek, launched Project Moonshot. This is a testing toolkit designed to address security and safety challenges often associated with the use of large language models (LLMs), the cornerstone of many AI-driven solutions.
