If you enjoyed participating in or watching Singtel's PVP Campus League or Corporate League in 2019, you might be happy to know the telco is stepping up its efforts for these initiatives in 2020. At the Thailand Game Expo in Bangkok earlier today, Singtel revealed more details on how the community leagues would play out this year.
2020 will feature two competitive seasons - the first will last all the way from March to June, while the second will run from August till November. Teams who win the regional qualifiers in Singapore, Thailand, the Philippines or Indonesia will be rewarded with cash prizes and the opportunity to represent their country at Season 1's Grand Finals held at the Indonesia Games Championship in July.
Of course, it won't just be a carbon copy of last year. Together with regional partners including AIS, Globe, and Telkomsel, Singtel intends to take the PVP Esports leagues to the next level, featuring bigger rewards in the form of a S$100,000 prize pool, which is the largest sum for a community tournament, as well as a wider roster of games in 2020.
When asked for comment, CEO of Singtel's International Group, Mr. Arthur Lang reiterated that while the main aim of the PVP Esports initiative was to "drive the growth of gaming and esports in the region", the particular emphasis for 2020 was to encourage "healthy gaming" as well. This, he said would be achieved through Singtel's collaborative efforts with its regional partners.
Currently, the telco hasn't confirmed the full lineup of titles for the first season yet, although we do know that PUBG Mobile, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang and Dota 2 are already on the list. Anyway, registration for the Singapore qualifiers is set to begin on 10 February, so do make sure to note the date down if you and the crew would like to give it a shot. Best of luck!
