Apple is extending the service coverage for 1st-gen Apple Watches with detached back covers to three years.
9to5Mac came across a service document which states that Apple has authorized coverage for three years from the date of purchase. The company has determined that some 1st-gen Apple Watches may have their back covers separate from the case under certain conditions.
These eligible devices will be serviced free of charge. The extended service coverage applies for all 1st-gen Apple Watch models including the Apple Watch, the Apple Watch Sport, Apple Watch Hermès and Apple Watch Edition.
In May this year, Apple also extended the warranty for the 1st-gen Apple Watches with swollen batteries. Affected devices will be covered for two years beyond the original 1-year limited warranty.
