Samsung is terminating its S Translator service on Dec 1
S Translator has a date with S Voice.
On Dec 1 this year Samsung will be shutting down its S Translator service. A staple on many premium Galaxy devices of the last few years, the termination is confirmed through a notification the company sent to its customers in South Korea, as reported by TizenHelp.
A service born out of an era when the company felt that it needed to develop in-house apps to better compete with other phone makers (it debuted on the 2014 Galaxy S5, by the way), S Translator’s main pitch is to give Galaxy device users an easy way to quickly translate spoken words or entered text into several languages.
But with Bixby able to do pretty much the same thing now, Samsung probably sees maintaining S Translator today as a poor use of resources. In fact, with only a handful of supported languages, one could argue that it never stood a chance once Google Translate or Microsoft Translator came along.
If you recall, Samsung also killed its S Voice service this past June.
