We're just days away from BlizzCon, and an Overwatch 2 announcement is looking increasingly likely.
An ESPN report over the weekend cited unnamed sources as confirming the game, which is said to feature a new logo, new game modes and heroes, and a stronger focus on the PvE side of things. ESPN also reportedly obtained a BlizzCon training document that further details what to expect from Overwatch 2, including a four-player story experience set in Rio de Janeiro. Most notably, Overwatch 2 will do more to flesh out the game's lore, which save for the occasional animated short, has been pretty thin in the first Overwatch.
The game also appears to be reasonably far along in the development phase, since BlizzCon attendees are expected to be able to play the PvE story and new Push game mode, which is set in a new map based in Toronto.
A new image found on the Blizzard Gear website appears to further confirm the game. First spotted by folks on the MMO Champion forum, the artwork features Reinhardt, Tracer, Mei, Genji, Mercy, Brigitte, Winston, and Echo charging into battle. The image isn't available for public viewing, but it's hosted by Blizzard and hidden from the store, seemingly set to go live when Overwatch 2 is officially announced.
Echo is an omnic character first revealed at BlizzCon last year, and ESPN originally reported that she could be the game's 32nd hero. The story was later updated to remove mention of Echo though, but her appearance in this new image again raises the possibility of the character being introduced as a playable hero, or at least featuring in the story in some prominent way.
The existing heroes also boast small updates to their designs, but they're all still readily recognisable. Most notably, Genji is finally wearing clothes over his cybernetic suit, so he's not completely naked anymore.
BlizzCon will run from 1 to 2 November at the Anaheim Convention Center in California. You can view the schedule according to Singapore time right here.
