Now we just need an exact date.
Microsoft has officially revealed its global release window for the Xbox Series X: November 2020. The next-generation console will launch during this year’s holiday season despite the delay of its biggest launch title - Halo Infinite.
An Xbox Wire post by editor in chief Will Tuttle explains:
We have plenty to keep you busy until Chief arrives: There will be thousands of games to play, spanning four generations, when Xbox Series X launches globally this November and over 100 optimized for Xbox Series X titles, built to take full advantage of our most powerful console, are planned for this year.
Halo Infinite’s absence might hurt, but the post promises that Xbox Series X owners will have access to ‘thousands of titles’ from four generations of videogames - all the way from the original Xbox and Xbox 360 to Xbox One. The Xbox Series X will be backwards-compatible with many older games, even going so far as to enhance them with increased resolutions up to 4K, HDR colour and increased framerates.
Microsoft has an impressive lineup of first-party games for the Xbox Series X in the works - but most of them are still years away from release. With the delay of Halo Infinite, the company might have to lean especially hard on the reveal of their second console: the Xbox Series S.
