Microsoft has hired a former Apple executive to lead its mixed reality hardware and artificial intelligence (AI) technology.

Ruben Caballero, who was the vice president of engineering in charge of developing wireless technology for the iPhone, iPads and Macs, is appointed corporate vice president at Microsoft. His LinkedIn profile reveals that he is working on hardware such as the HoloLens mixed reality headset.

Caballero left Apple in early 2019 after the iPhone maker moved its modem chip engineering team into the in-house hardware technology group led by Johny Srouji. He is also currently a technical advisor for Humane, which is a startup run by several former Apple employees.
