As part of a major cost-cutting move and reorganisation of the company, Meta says it will stop the development of smart displays and smartwatches.

Chief Technology Officer Andrew Bosworth, who leads the Reality Labs division, told Reuters the company will cease work on the Portal smart display devices and smartwatches. Bosworth added the smartwatch team will now focus its efforts on augmented reality glasses.

The Verge reported in June 2021 that Meta was working on a smartwatch that has a detachable display with two cameras. Other rumoured specs include Android OS, messaging and health features. The second and third generations models were also believed to be in development. A purported image of the smartwatch was revealed through the Facebook View app in November 2021.
