Life is indeed full of happy little accidents, like when I recently came across that video of someone playing Inscryption on YouTube about a week ago. Although it appears simple and straightforward at first glance, developer Daniel Mullins' quirky card battler is actually much more engaging and unpredictable than it lets on, which explains why I soon had a Stoat card in hand too.

Yes, I know that it features the "Horror" tab and all, but it's not actually scary, and this is coming from the guy who won't even come within five feet of a Resident Evil game.

Anyway, although the game certainly deserves a huge thumbs up for its rather unorthodox method of storytelling, players also showered great praise on Inscryption for the addictiveness of its first gameplay arc, which sees you playing a roguelike card game against the creepy tree-like man called Leshy. Even though you will continue to play the same card game over the course of the narrative, let's just say that the "flavour" varies from arc to arc, and many folks, myself included were slightly disappointed that there wasn't an "endless" mode for Leshy's roguelike variant. Until now, that is.

Apparently, in view of the overwhelming demand for such a mode, Mullins has announced a free mini-expansion for the game titled Kaycee's Mod, which allows you to enjoy the aforementioned roguelike as a "standalone" experience. It's still in its beta testing phase at the moment, but all you'll have to do is find the Betas tab in the game's Properties menu and key in the code "givemeascensionmode". Following that, you can simply hit Shift+K+M to start playing this so-called "endless roguelike".

Needless to say, this experience increases in difficulty as you progress further, and likewise, it also features new cards, challenges, and other story materials not available in the base game. Notably, you're allowed to add more "skulls" to enjoy varying Challenge Levels, which scale all the way up to a maximum of 12, and as a bonus, there's even a special boss fight thrown into the mix too. So, yeah - don't forget to bring a spare squirrel.
