ARM to resume supply of chip technology to Huawei
The British company's legal team said its chip technology is of U.K origin and would not breach U.S trade restrictions.
Five months after suspending business with Huawei, British chip designer ARM will continue to supply chip technology to the Chinese company.
In an email to Reuters, an ARM spokeswoman shared that "ARM's v8 and v9 are U.K-origin technologies". Therefore, ARM can provide support to HiSilicon for the v8-A architecture and the next generation of that architecture.
However, it is unclear whether the U.S trade ban will affect ARM's chip architecture designs beyond the next generation of the v8-A. The spokeswoman stated that the company is actively discussing with U.S department officials regarding any support of HiSilicon, and it remains confident that it is operating within the parameters of those guidelines.
