Huawei could be preparing to sell its 5G phones in the global market soon.
According to IT Home, sources claim the recent domestic launches of the Huawei Mate 60 phones and Mate X5 foldable phones - the company's first 5G phones in years - are part of a broader plan for a global return for the Chinese company.
The Huawei Mate 60 phones and the Mate X5 foldable phone are powered by the Kirin 9000S chip, which is manufactured by the partially state-owned SMIC. The Kirin 9000S is also the first Kirin processor in years due to the U.S. export bans that barred Huawei's access to U.S. technologies.
While there is no exact timeline for Huawei's return to the global market, its domestic production forecast has been revised from 30 million in January to 38 million units today. If and when Huawei returns to the global phone market, its 5G phones will not be powered by Android OS due to a suspension of its license. This could still severely limit the appeal of Huawei's 5G phones to global consumers.
