Apple reportedly scaling back iPhone Air production due to sluggish demand

It’s undoubtedly impressive, but that hasn’t translated to high sales figures.

The Apple iPhone Air appears to be suffering the same fate as its closest rival, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge.

According to Mizuho Securities, Apple has reportedly reduced iPhone Air production by about one million units before the end of the year. In contrast, production of the iPhone 17 series is being ramped up in response to strong demand.

This suggests that iPhone Air sales have been sluggish. A recent report from Omdia described the model’s shipments as “modest,” while noting that early demand for the iPhone 17 series helped Apple achieve a record third quarter.

Although the iPhone Air initially sold out within hours in China, it appears to have struggled to sustain momentum in other markets. Similarly, the Galaxy S25 Edge has seen underwhelming sales compared to the rest of the Galaxy S25 lineup, prompting speculation that its successor may be cancelled.

The limited popularity of the iPhone Air likely stems from its value proposition. While positioned as an ultra-thin and lightweight model, the iPhone Air lacks other headline-grabbing features (e.g., triple-camera setup, vapour chamber, and long battery life) to justify its high starting price of S$1,599.
