Sitex 2016 highlights
It's the end of November, which means Sitex is here once again. Now in its 28th edition, Sitex 2016 will be held from 24 to 27 November at Halls 5 and 6 of the Singapore Expo Convention & Exhibition Center. Doors will open from 11am in the morning all the way to 9pm daily. As always, admission is free.
With hundreds of brands expected to showcase their latest wares, Sitex is the place to be at this time of the year if you want to fulfill your home entertainment, lifestyle electronics, office equipment, and travel technology shopping needs. That said, Sitex is not just a place to suss out the best tech deals; the organizer has also prepared three thematic zones (Adventure IT, Smart Home & Appliances, Gaming Arena), a Tech Zone with an Innovation Alley where visitors will learn about the latest local startups and their products and services, as well as a dance-fusing tech competition called DanceTex. In short, there's something for everyone.

The HP Elite X3 is a Windows 10 Mobile phone powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor and 4GB RAM. It has a 5.96-inch 2,560 x 1,440 pixels resolution AMOLED display and IP67 build to protect against dust and water. As with all Windows 10 Mobile phones, you can connect it to a monitor or TV and turn it into a desktop PC with Windows Continuum. The HTC 10 is a Snapdragon 820-equipped 5.2-inch smartphone with HTC's signature metal uni-body design with a curved rear and chamfered edges. Huawei
The Huawei Mate 9 is a 5.9-inch phablet with a Full HD display powered by a Kirin 960 processor. The back, sides and frame of the phone are made entirely from lightweight, ultra-durable ceramic. Inside you'll find a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor, and 4GB RAM. Fitbit
The Fitbit Blaze is a sleek fitness-oriented smartwatch that can also track your workouts, monitor your performance stats, and gauge your exercise progress. The PurePulse continuous heart rate monitor gives accurate real-time feedback and multi-sport modes make it ideal for every type of exercise. Get one at Sitex for just $278 (usual price: $318).
The basic Fitbit Alta is a sleek fitness band at S$178 (U.P. S$198) that tracks your steps, reminds you to move, has smart notifications, sleep tracking, tells you the time and looks good doing it. If you don’t mind something older, the Charge HR (which was released in 2015) is on sale for S$138, down from S$218, but only available in teal.
Fossil
Fashion meets function with the Android Wear-powered Q Marshal and Q Wander smartwatches from Fossil. Inside the chunky 45mm case is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 2100 processor and 512MB RAM. You also get an IP67 certification, activity tracking and sleep tracking. Pick one up from Sitex for $479.
Garmin
Garmin’s Vivofit 3 is an activity tracker that shows steps, calories burned, distance, sleep, intensity minutes and the time of day. S$129 at Sitex, S$20 off its usual price of S$149.
Huawei
The Huawei Watch has a 1.4-inch AMOLED display and a sapphire crystal glass screen in a 42mm case. The watch is powered by a 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor with 4GB of storage and 512MB of RAM. Onboard sensors allow it to track your heart rate and activity. Motorola
The newly released Moto 360 Sport is a sportier version of Motorola's Android Wear smartwatch, and includes a dedicated running app and built in GPS connectivity. Get one from Sitex for $499 (usual price: $599)
Samsung
Samsung's new Gear S3 has a larger, always-on AMOLED display and now includes a built-in altimeter and barometer for measuring altitude and atmospheric pressure. The watch comes in two variants, the elegant Classic and the more rugged-looking Frontier. Pick one up at Sitex for $548.

The Samsung Gear Fit2 (not a typo) is S$248 at the show (U.P. S$298), you can get an additional S$50 off the price if you also buy a Samsung phone or tablet. Safra members can get a pair of free Samsung Level Active headphones when they buy a Fit2, but it’s only available for the first 50 customers.

TomTom
TomTom’s new tracker, the TomTom Touch, can be had at Sitex for S$199 (U.P. S$239). Among its fitness tracking abilities, it can also measure your body fat percentage.
Notebooks - 1
Acer
If you think the Microsoft Surface Pro 4 too expensive, the Acer Switch Alpha 12 may be a good option. It features a fanless design, relying instead on an integrated liquid cooling solution to stay cool. You’ll be able to get it with up to an Intel Core i7-6500U processor, 8GB of RAM, and a 256GB SSD. It is available now starting at $1,298 (U.P. $1,498), and comes with a premium bundle (worth $475.95) that includes things like an Acer Active Stylus, a 3-year McAfee Internet Security subscription, and Microsoft Office 365 Personal.
The Acer Swift 7 is literally the world’s thinnest notebook. At just 9.98mm thick and weighing 1.12kg, it is exceedingly sleek and portable. It is powered by a seventh-generation Intel Core i7-7Y75 processor, 8GB of RAM, and a 256GB SSD. You can get it at a starting price of $1,798, together with a bundle (worth $335) that includes a Microsoft Arc Touch Bluetooth mouse, a 3-year McAfee Internet Security subscription, and a carrying case.
The 14-inch Acer Aspire E14 is powered by an Intel Core i7-7500U processor, 8GB of RAM, and a 1 TB HDD. It still uses an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 940MX card, but it’s also one of the most affordable Intel Kaby Lake notebooks around. It is available at just $999, down from $1,398.
Acer has updated its Predator 15 gaming laptop with NVIDIA's new Pascal GPUs, and the refreshed notebook now comes with an Intel Core i7-6700HQ processor, 16GB of RAM, and a 256GB SSD and 1TB HDD. It will cost you $2,798 for the model with a GeForce GTX 1060, $300 off its usual price.
Aftershock
The 15.6-inch Aftershock S-15 is powered by an Intel Core i7-6700HQ processor, 8GB of RAM, and a 250GB Samsung 850 EVO SSD and 1TB HDD. It features an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 graphics card, but you can opt for a GeForce GTX 1070 and up to 16GB of RAM as well. The GeForce GTX 1060 model will cost you $2,158 (U.P. $2,512), while the 1070 model will cost $2,670 (U.P. $3,033). You’ll get a free Aftershock backpack, M5 gaming mouse, mousepad, and anti-virus software.
