SG Tech Show 2014 Highlights
Another show is in town, and it's the SG Tech Show! Held at Suntec from 29th May to 1st June, it's the place to be at if you're looking for the latest digital, mobile, and consumer electronics. If you're intending to head down for a look, why not check out our article first for the highlights?
A New Show is Born
The first edition of the SG Tech Show is now happening at Suntec Singapore Convention & Exhibition Center, from today May 29 all the way to June 1. Held in Halls 401-406, doors will be opened from 12pm to 9pm throughout the four days (except the last day, which ends at 8pm). As always, admission is free. SG Tech Show is brought to you by Exhibits Inc. Pte Ltd, who is also responsible for other tech shows like IT Show and Comex. While it looks like at first glance many major brands aren't present, rest assured that you'll still find a plethora of electronic gadgets, IT products, accessories and peripherals at the show, from mobile phones, tablets, and notebooks, to digital cameras, networking devices, and storage devices. That's because many brands have entered the show through electronics retailers like Best Denki, Courts, Harvey Norman, and Newstead instead. Without further ado, here are some products and deals that caught our eye.

Acer
Acer has one of the strongest presence at the show, and is offering notebooks, desktop systems, tablets, and even monitors on sale.
The Iconia A1 has an 8-inch display and runs off a 1.6GHz Intel Atom Z5560 processor and has 16GB of internal storage. It is also preloaded with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. Best of all, it can be had for just $249, which is just half its usual price!
The Acer Aspire E1-472 is an affordable 14-inch mainstream notebook that is powered by an Intel Core i5-4200U processor and comes with 4GB of RAM and a 500GB HDD. Going for $799.
The Acer Liquid S2 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core 2.2GHz processor, 2GB RAM and Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. It has a 6-inch Full HD display with Gorilla Glass 3. Other specs include a 13-megapixel rear camera with F2.2 aperture, BSI sensor, 4K video recording capability and 4G connectivity. It is available at $599 (down from $799).

ASUS
ASUS products are scattered all over the halls and can be found at retailers such as Courts and Harvey Norman. If you are looking for their routers, they can be found at Bizgram, which is located at the left side of the hall. Here are some of the key ASUS products we saw:
The flagship RT-AC68U router is going for $329, which represents savings of around $30. However, if that is overkill, you can also consider the RT-AC66U or RT-AC56U.
The new G750JZ gaming notebook features a quad-core Core i7 processor, 16GB of memory, a 2TB HDD and NVIDIA's latest GeForce GTX 880M GPU.
As its name suggests, the Transformer Book Trio from ASUS is equal parts dual OS notebook, desktop PC and Android tablet, perfect for those who cannot decide between the various form factors. Buy now and ASUS will throw in a free Trend Micro security software, sleeve case, USB LAN dongle and even a 21.5-inch monitor worth over $200!
For $349, you can get the latest ASUS Fonepad 7 LTE with a free TriCover (worth $59). The Fonepad 7 LTE runs on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean and sports 8GB internal storage with microSD expansion up to 64GB.
Canon
The Canon Pixma MX477 prints, scan, copies, and faxes - all for just $159! Need we say more? Yes, it's a further $20 off at the show, and you get freebies too!
Casio
Love taking selfies? Casio has just the camera for you:
Casio's latest premium compact, the Exilim EX-100 has a 10.7x optical zoom lens with a constant aperture of F2.8, all in a diecast magnesium body. It's going for $1,299 and comes with $100 Harvey Norman vouchers.

D-Link
D-Link's DIR-868L is one of the more affordable AC1750 routers around and it is going for $239 (U.P.: $319).
D-Link is the undisputed leader in the local IP camera scene and there are loads of models to choose from at the show. For instance, the DCS-5222L records in 720p and can pan, tilt and even zoom up to 10x. It is going for $199 (U.P.: $279).
Dell / Alienware
The Dell Alienware 18 is quite possibly the most powerful gaming notebook at the show, packing a quad-core Core i7-4910MQ processor and dual GeForce GTX 880M GPUs in SLI. However, it costs an eye-watering $4,999.
Students rejoice! There is a special 20% discount on the Alienware 17 notebook for all students, which means it can be had for $2,639. Also comes with free accidental damage coverage, Tigerair vouchers and a gaming mouse.
Fujifilm
The Fujifilm X-E1 comes with a 16-megapixel X-Trans CMOS sensor and a 2.36M dot OLED electronic viewfinder. Buy it with the 18-55mm F2.8-4R kit lens for $1,399.
Don't like changing lenses? There's always the Fujifilm X100S, which has a 16.3-megapixel APS-C sensor and a fixed 23mm F2 Fujinon lens. The X100S is going for $1,799 with a $50 cashback offer.

Fuji Xerox
Laser/LED printers produce sharp, crisp text, making them suitable for most of the printing in offices. If you need a replacement for your small/ home office printer, drop by the Fuji Xerox booth to take a look.
The Fuji Xerox DocuPrint M255 z is a mono desktop all-in-one that is able to print, copy, scan and fax. Duplex printing is also automatic, so you don't have to manually flip the pages over. It's going for $269, which is $130 off the regular price.
The DocuPrint CM215 fw is an A4 color S-LED printer that can also copy, scan and fax. It has print speeds of up to 12ppm for color documents and 15ppm for monochrome documents. It goes for $489 and comes with DocuWorks OCR software.
The Fuji Xerox DocuPrint CM305 df provides good value with its print, scan, copy and fax capabilities. There's also an automatic duplexer, and it comes bundled with the DocuWorks OCR software. Buy it for $599.
HP
Notebooks, desktops, and AIOs, HP has got them all. They can be located to the left of the exhibition hall. Here are some models that might interest you, such as the HP Recline 27.
The HP Recline 27 has a 27-inch full HD touchscreen display and is powered by a quad-core Intel Core i7-4770T processor. It also has 16GB of RAM and a 1TB hybrid HDD. Available for $2,499.
The Pavilion 14 comes in white and red and is powered by a Core i5-4200U processor. It also has 4GB of RAM, a 500GB HDD, and an NVIDIA GeForce GT 740M GPU. It is going for $899.
Need a new printer? HP is one of the options available at the SG Tech Show.
The HP Officejet Pro X576dw isn't the most affordable inkjet printer around, but it's definitely one of the fastest and may even rival some lower-end laser printers in terms of speed. If you require a printer for your small/home office and need to occasionally print in color, check it out. It's going for $1,299.
The Officejet Pro 8600 Plus is an all-in-one that has print, copy, scan, and fax capabilities. It has print speeds of up to 20ppm for black and white documents, and 16ppm for color documents. It also has a 25,000 page-per-month duty cycle. If you like what you see, go grab it for $349.
If you value good looks (and an automatic duplexer) in a printer, here's the HP Envy 120 all-in-one printer. Its stylish looks will look right at home in your designer cubicle.
Lenovo
Lenovo has a couple of interesting notebook models at the show, including the Lenovo IdeaPad Y510p, a notebook which we quite like thanks to its unique Ultrabay feature, and the Yoga Pro 2.
The Lenovo Y510p is unique for its Ultrabay, which allows users to fit in a graphics module to enable GeForce GT 750M in SLI. It is going for $2,099 and comes with a free copy of Diablo III: Reaper of Souls.
The Lenovo Yoga Pro 2 was our winner for Best Windows 8 Ultra Portable Notebook at this year's Tech Awards and it is going for $1,949 and comes with free extended warranty, McAfee Internet Security software and a Samsonite bag.
If you are looking for a no-frills notebook, consider the Lenovo S410, which has a 14-inch display, Core i3-4010U processor, 2GB of RAM and a 500GB HDD. It is going for $649 (U.P.: $749).
LG
The just-announced LG UB850T 4K TV can also be found at SG Tech Show. Sporting a new WebOS smart TV platform that makes navigation so much easier, the UB850T is also a 3D TV that relies on passive 3D tech, which means its 3D glasses are flicker-free, battery-free, and comfortable to wear. Available in 49 and 55-inch screen sizes, you can find them at Booth 409 going for $2,759 and $3,699 respectively. Comes with a 3-year warranty, as well as free delivery and installation.
Logitech
If you don't want to pay top dollar for gaming peripherals (i.e., paying for the brand name), Logitech has always been a brand we turn to for good performance and value.
The Logitech G502 is a gaming mouse that has a comfortable design, which includes big buttons and provision for customized weight adjustment. Bring it home for $99.
The Logitech G19s is a gaming keyboard that lets you customize your backlit keys with a choice of 16 million colors, while you can assign a unique color to each profile, profile mode, and mode style in the same game. The G19s costs $209.
MSI
As we have reported recently, MSI is focusing their efforts squarely on the enthusiast and gaming market and has released a whole bunch of gaming notebooks in various sizes and specifications.
The MSI GT70 2PE Dominator Pro has a quad-core Core i7 processor and is powered also by NVIDIA's latest flagship mobile GPU, the GeForce GTX 880M. It also features Super RAID technology - 256GB of flash memory - and a regular 1TB HDD. In top spec, this model will set you back $3,799 and will come with an MSI backpack, HDMI cable, gaming mouse, and a free copy of Assassin's Creed.
The GS70 Stealth Pro is a super slim 17-inch gaming notebook that has a quad-core Core i7-4700HQ processor and the new GeForce GTX 870M graphics. It also supports the latest Wireless-AC standard, a rarity for notebooks. It costs $3,099.
Nikon
If you're looking for a DSLR, take a look at the Nikon cameras that can be found at the SG Tech Show.
If you don't want a beginner DSLR, but find the Nikon D7100 a bit too much to handle, take a look at the Nikon D5300. With the latest Expeed 4 image processor and a 24.2-megapixel CMOS sensor, you can grab the D5300 with the 18-55mm and 55-200mm lenses for $1,349. Wow!
Or if you're feeling up to it, go for Nikon's top APS-C camera, the D7100. With 51 autofocus points and a 24-megapixel sensor, the D7100 costs $2,299 and comes with the 18-105mm and 70-300mm lenses.

Olympus
Mirrorless system cameras offer a good balance between image quality, features, and camera size. Check out the Olympus cameras at the show if you think a mirrorless system camera suits you better.
The OM-D E-M5 Elite Black edition goes for $2,198 and comes bundled with a 12-40mm F2.8 lens. There's also a $200 cashback promotion for the camera, so you actually end up paying less.
If you want to spring for the best Olympus mirrorless system camera, here's the OM-D E-M1. The E-M1 comes with a 16-megapixel MOS Four Thirds format sensor with no low-pass filter and is dust, splash and freeze-proof. Be prepared to fork out $1,948 for the body alone or $2,948 for the body and the 12-400mm kit lens. There's a $200 cashback offer for this camera as well.
The Olympus Pen E-PL6 makes shooting easier with its tilt screen (especially for selfies) and comes with built-in Wi-Fi so you can share your images right after you take them. You can have the camera and a 14-42mm kit lens for $728 after trading in any camera.

Panasonic
The Panasonic TH-L55ET60S is a 55-inch, full HD smart TV (built-in Wi-Fi, a full web browser, etc.). It uses an IPS panel, and has three HDMI inputs and three USB ports. It does 3D too, including 2D to 3D conversion. It also has a built-in DVB-T2 tuner, so it's ready for MediaCorp's latest digital channels. Found at Booth 416, it's going for $1,850.
Philips
The Philips 50PFL3108 is a 50-inch, full HD LED-backlit TV. It has two HDMI ports, two USB ports (good for connecting to external devices), and a 100Hz Perfect Motion Rate for clear motion sharpness. Found at Booth 407, it can be had for $1,180 (down from $1,999), and comes with a 3-year warranty, free smart hub, and free wall mounting with bracket.
Samsung
If you're feeling rich, Samsung's latest U9000 curved UHD (4K) TV is at SG Tech Show too. Other than the mind-boggling 3,840 x 2,160-pixel resolution (four times full HD), it has built-in Wi-Fi, four HDMI and three USB ports, and supports DVB-T2. Available in 65 and 55-inch screen sizes, you can find them going for $7,479 and $5,279 at Booth 423. Free gifts include either a 2-pc M7 wireless speaker and WAM-250 connect hub or a $600 voucher.
If you think full HD is enough for you, then take a look at the Samsung UA-48H6400, a 48-inch smart TV that the company launched this year. It sports a Clear Motion Rate of 400, has four HDMI and three USB ports, comes with built-in Wi-Fi, and is compatible with DVB-T2 digital broadcasts. Going for $1,399, you can opt for a free M5 wireless speaker, or 2 pairs of 3D glasses.
Sharp
The Sharp LC-46LE450M is a 46-inch full HD TV with two HDMI terminals and a D-Sub port for connecting to a PC. It's something to consider if you've no use for all the bangs and whistles of the latest models, and just want a big-screen TV. Found at Booth 421, it's going for $798.
Steelseries
Looking to improve your gaming performance? Besides spending more time on your gaming skills, another way is to upgrade your gear with peripherals designed to improve your performance. One such brand is Steelseries.
The Steelseries Sensei is one of the most advanced gaming mice around. You can customize every specification and setting from the lift distance, button functionality and CPI. It goes for $169 (before the 5% show discount).
Once you're done with upgrading your mouse, time to look at a new keyboard. The Steelseries 6GV2 features gold-plated Cherry Black mechanical switches that have a lifecycle of 50 million keystrokes. It costs $175 (before the 5% show discount).
Toshiba
On the hunt for a mainstream notebook? Check out Toshiba's Satellite L40, which is powered by an Intel dual-core Celeron 1037U processor, 2GB of RAM and a 500GB HDD. It is available for $629 and comes with free Norton Internet Security and a notebook bag.
Targeted at mobile warriors, the Toshiba Protege Z30 weighs just 1.2kg and is powered by a Core i5-4200U processor, 4GB of RAM and has a 128GB SSD. It is available for $1,799 and comes with free one-year subscription of Norton Internet Security.
The Canvio Connect is a portable hard disk drive with Cloud capability and is available in 1TB ($99) and 2TB ($189) capacities.
Transcend
For the rugged traveler, Transcend presents its latest USB 3.0 portable hard disk drive, which offers military-grade shock resistance and Transcend Elite data management software. The 1TB model is going $98, while the 2TB costs $175.
Western Digital
Western Digital is scattered all over the show floor but their latest personal cloud storage devices are all available at the show.
The new My Cloud Mirror is available at the show. The 4TB model is going for $549, the 6TB $649, and the 8TB $799.
Western Digital's new My Cloud personal cloud storage devices are available in various capacities with prices beginning at $239 for the 2TB version. The 3TB version costs $289 and the 4TB version costs $399.
For power users, storage enthusiasts or SME owners, there is the Cloud EX4 with prices beginning at $599 for the device alone and topping out at $1,729 if you want it with 16TB of storage.
